The program is designed for those who wish to develop their Khmer language skills and gain a better understanding of contemporary Cambodian society for academic and professional purposes. The KLCP is intended for students who have not completed two years of formal Khmer language training. However, students with little or no prior Khmer language learning experience are also welcome to apply. For more details about the program click here.

CKS is seeking to hire:

  • One Khmer Language Instructor to teach a beginner/elementary-level course for 8 weeks, of which one week is tentatively planned for a field trip outside of Phnom Penh.
  • One Khmer Language Instructor to teach a heritage course* for 8 weeks, of which one week is tentatively planned for the field trip outside of Phnom Penh.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The morning schedule is fixed: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
  • The afternoon schedule is more flexible depending on the planned activities and shared duties with the Field Coordinator and Teaching Assistants (TAs). It is generally from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM.
  • Thursday afternoons: visits to NGOs or hosting guest speakers.
  • The afternoon classes will be taught by the Teaching Assistants, with whom the Instructors will work closely to ensure consistency of teaching technique and content, complementarity with the morning class, and reinforcement of the students’ learning experience.

There will be approximately 7-8 students in total in each class. The results of the assessments will be shared with the CKS team. The course syllabus may be adjusted subsequently to suit the Khmer language level of the students.
  • Pre-program: One month prior to the start of the program, the Instructors will spend approximately 5-10 hours to refine and prepare the curriculum and syllabus with the local Field Coordinator and CKS team.
