The Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) mission is to support research and teaching in the social sciences, arts and humanities as they relate to Cambodia. Since our founding in 1999, CKS has continued to promote and foster greater understanding of Cambodia and the Mekong region within Cambodia and abroad through the support of students and scholars from the U.S., France and Cambodia, and through its extensive library collection and programming activities in Cambodia.

CKS is seeking one qualified candidate to fulfill the positions of Program and Administrative Assistant in Phnom Penh to support the daily operation of CKS and the preparation for, and implementation of, CKS’s programs. The position reports directly to the Finance Manager and also work closely to Deputy Director.


Program Administration

  • Support the preparing, managing, and reporting CKS projects and programs in Phnom Penh and online, including but not limited to CKS projects, workshops, courses, seminars, lectures, and study abroad programs.


Administrative Support

  • Manage and maintain CKS office equipment supplies and filing system. Monitor and schedule IT Maintenance and building maintenance.
  • Ensure all existing monitoring systems/databases are up to date, including visitor logs, activity participant lists, and generally keeping records of CKS events and activities.
  • Assist in supervising guards, housekeeper, external contractors, consultants, and interns.
  • Support the Finance Manager in recording accounting data as needed.
  • Support the renewal of MoU with partnered institutions, and ministries.


Communication and Outreach

  • Welcome visitors and introduce CKS programs and facilities.
  • Maintain good relations with local authorities, local governmental and non-governmental partners and universities in Phnom Penh.
  • Assist in circulating the CKS event/program announcements with local universities and institutions.

  1. Undergraduate degree required. Preference given to those with an interest in education, international studies, cultural studies or similar.
  2. Experience in office administration required, human resource management a plus.
  3. Demonstrated written and verbal English language skills. Other language skills a plus.
  4. Excellent computer skills including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  5. Excellent interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  6. Enjoys working in a multicultural environment that values diversity. Flexible and open-minded.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work productively under pressure.
  8. Working experience with governments, academic institutions, international development organizations is preferable.
