The Khmer Language and Culture Program (KLCP) provides an opportunity for US and non-US faculty, post-graduate researchers, and upper-level undergraduates to participate in an intensive eight-week study abroad program, from June 9 to August 1, 2025, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with field trips to Siem Reap. The program is designed for those who wish to develop their Khmer language skills and gain a better understanding of contemporary Cambodian society for academic and professional purposes. The KLCP is intended for students who have not completed two years of formal Khmer language training. Students with little or no prior Khmer language learning experience are also welcome to apply. Field Coordinator: One position is open in the Khmer Language and Culture Program (KLCP) of the Center for Khmer Studies in Cambodia. The Field Coordinator will work closely with the KLCP students and instructors and Teaching Assistants under the supervision of the CKS team. The eight-week program will include in-class and outdoor learning and field trips, including a trip to Siem Reap.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Field Coordinator will,
Pre-program:
- Work about 5-10 hours with the Instructor and CKS team to plan in-class activities, such as topics of instruction, guest speakers and outdoor learning activities, including field visits to different institutions and destinations outside of Phnom Penh. The Coordinator, with supervision from the CKS team, will coordinate and ensure all activities in the syllabus are ready prior to the program starting on June 9, 2025.
- Notify successful applicants and provide pre-departure orientation regarding the program and logistics.
During the program:
- Work full-time from June 9 to August 1, 2025, to monitor the progress of the program and communicate with the CKS team about any challenges.
- Be available to support students if there is an emergency beyond normal class hours.
- Arrange and participate in field visits and field trips.
- Take photos of the program activities from time to time and upload them to CKS Google.
- Produce captions for CKS social media posts and short articles for CKS publication.
- Assist in cash advances, payment receipts, and expense reports.
- Develop student feedback forms (online/offline).
- Assist in the preparation of other program-related logistics and activities.
Post-program:
- Collect the completed feedback forms from all students.
- Produce and submit the program report following the template provided by CKS.
- Ensure that the Instructors and the Teaching Assistants deliver their final work to CKS.
- Clear any financial/expense reports as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, social sciences, cultural studies, or a related discipline).
- Experience:
- Experience in program coordination, event planning, or working with international participants.
- Familiarity with organizing educational programs, including classroom activities and field trips.
- Language Skills:
- Proficiency in Khmer (speaking, reading, and writing) is required.
- Strong English communication skills (both written and spoken) to support international participants.
- Knowledge of Cambodia:
- Strong understanding of Cambodian culture, history, and contemporary society.
- Familiarity with key destinations and logistics for field trips, including Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including students, instructors, and program staff.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills to handle program logistics.
- Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with online communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet) for program coordination.
