CKS Epigraphy Workshop 2021

On November 2, 2021, a group of eight epigraphy experts gathered for a special CKS workshop titled “CKS Epigraphy Workshop 2021” that was organized and chaired by CKS fellow Hunter Watson with support from CKS staff.

The purpose of the workshop was to bring together leading epigraphy experts in the Mainland Southeast Asia region to share and discuss their research. The participants included experts on inscriptions and languages in Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Peter Skilling, a well-known scholar of Buddhism, epigraphy, and ancient texts in South and Southeast Asia. Seven additional presentations on various topics relating to inscriptions and epigraphic studies were given by the workshop participants representing the École française d’Extrême-Orient and Silpakorn University.

This event set the stage for a larger workshop to be held at the CKS conference hall in Siem Reap tentatively scheduled for spring 2022. CKS would like to thank Hunter Watson, a CKS Research Fellow, for his efforts in organizing and chairing the event.
