About the Workshop

This workshop offers an exploration of the application process for MA, PhD, and postdoctoral overseas fellowships. Looking deeply into the multifaceted realm of fellowship applications, participants will not only grasp the essential requirements but also uncover innovative and strategic preparation methods essential for navigating the competitiveness of global fellowship opportunities. Through practical insights shared by the speaker, this session aims to nurture Cambodian students and researchers to enhance their academic and research achievements and effectively showcase their unique qualifications. Attendees will gain the knowledge and tools required to craft compelling narratives that resonate with selection committees. Furthermore, participants will develop a nuanced understanding of the cultural, academic, and research expectations prevalent in different geographical areas, thereby increasing their chances of securing fellowships in their desired international destinations.

Speaker

Dr. Theara Thun is a research fellow at the University of Hong Kong and the co-instructor of the Ponlok Chomnes Research Fellowship (PCRF) Program at the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS). He is also the recipient of the 2024-25 Lee Kong Chian NUS-Stanford Distinguished Fellowship on Southeast Asia. After completing his MA at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand with the Rockefeller scholarship, he pursued his PhD at the National University of Singapore (NUS) through a joint scholarship program with the Harvard Yenching Institute (Harvard University). Between 2019 and 2022, Theara held positions as a postdoctoral fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies in the Netherlands and later as a postdoctoral researcher and then a research assistant professor at Kyoto University in Japan. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and a sole-authored monograph published by the University of Hawai’i Press in August 2024.
